ScribeFox is an iPhone app for recording a meeting and keeping the transcript and notes. This policy covers the app and this website. It describes what the app does today.

ScribeFox is published by Brett Nemeroff. Questions about privacy: brett@voicefoxtelephony.com.

What stays on the iPhone

ScribeFox does not require an account, and it does not upload meeting audio to a ScribeFox server. Recordings, transcripts, notes, photos, speaker voiceprints, and place labels are stored on the device until you delete them.

Transcription uses Apple’s speech recognition on the device. When Apple Intelligence is available, notes are written on the device as well. Live captions and topic changes use that same on-device speech recognition.

Microphone, camera, and photos

The microphone is used to record the meeting. The camera and photo library are used when you attach a picture to a meeting, such as a whiteboard or an attendee list. Those files stay on the iPhone unless you export them, publish an iCloud link, or ask a connected cloud model to read a photo.

Location

When a recording starts, ScribeFox takes one location fix, accurate to about a hundred meters, so it can label where the meeting was. You can skip this by denying location access. The meeting still records.

Apple’s geocoder turns the coordinates, or a place name you type, into a label. That lookup sends the coordinates or the text to Apple. The label stays on the phone. Exports and backups you create can include it. You can give a place a nickname, such as Home. Those nicknames stay on the device.

A computer on the same network

If you turn on desktop audio, the iPhone accepts meeting audio from a ScribeFox desktop app on the local network and mixes it into the recording. That audio is not sent to ScribeFox.

Your OpenAI or Claude key

Connecting OpenAI or Claude is optional. The key is stored in the iPhone Keychain. ScribeFox uses it only to call that provider. ScribeFox does not receive the key, and usage is billed to your account with that provider, not to ScribeFox.

When you use a connected key, ScribeFox sends the text that request needs:

Disconnecting a provider in Settings deletes its key from the Keychain. What that provider already received is governed by their policy: OpenAI and Anthropic.

iCloud links

If you create an iCloud link, ScribeFox copies that file into your iCloud Drive and asks Apple for a link. Anyone with the link can open the copy until it expires or you remove it. The original recording on the iPhone is left in place.

Purchases

If you buy a meeting or a subscription, Apple processes the payment. ScribeFox does not receive your card number.
